Mirrors
|
As reported in Classic Car Weekly, August 11 2005, the Federation of British
Historic Vehicle Clubs is assessing proposed UK legislation which may mean
that all historic vehicles have to be fitted with external mirrors. It
appears that the information in the proposal is very complex, but it could
mean that cars made before 1978 would have to have at least one exterior
(offside) mirror fitted.
|
|
The plans are still being studied in detail and it
is not clear what the full impact of the legislation will be.
|
|
Club Secretary Isobel Chivers comments "The 1800 did
not have mirrors fitted and I am loathe to attach any permanently; the ones
you fit round the window frames do not tend to stay on and I've given up
picking them up off the ground, usually in a busy petrol forecourt! I will
keep you posted."

Classic Car Warranty
|
The RAC is now offering warranty on cars registered between 1950 and 1990,
with up to £2,000 per individual claim, subject to vehicle type. Cover
includes both mechanical and electrical components and is transferable to a
new private owner. Clubs are being given the opportunity to join a scheme
whereby members get a 5% discount, and the Club earns 5% commission. We are
looking into this at the moment.
